During the last Chinese New Year holidays, my family and I made a trip to Kuala Lumpur. A few months before we went on the trip, my parents booked the air tickets. They also booked a room at the Swiss Hotel in Kuala Lumpur.
In the morning that we were supposed to fly to the capital city, my father called a taxi to take us to the Miri International Airport. My brother and I were very excited as this was our first flight. My father told us that the flight would take about 2 hours. After checking in at the counter and boarding the aeroplane, the aeroplane started to take off. I was glad to have a window seat. My brother sat next to me. We loved looking out through the window to enjoy a bird's eye view of the panorama.
After 2 hours, it was already 12 noon and we arrived at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport. We collected our luggage in the luggage claim area and ordered a taxi again to take us to the Swiss Hotel. After unpacking our stuff at the hotel, we decided to have our lunch at a nearby restaurant. After the meal, we visited our first tourist attraction - the KLCC Aquaria. We saw various types of fish there. While my father was busy taking snapshots of the colourful and exotic sea creatures, my brother and I were busy looking at them. The oceanarium consists of different sections and there are different kinds of fishes in each section. After viewing the fishes, we went to the souvenir shop to buy some souvenirs. Then we went back to the hotel to rest.
The next day, we went to the Zoo Negara. After buying the tickets, we entered the zoo. We saw lots of animals such as the elephants, lions, tigers, Malayan tapirs and so on. We also took some photographs with the tame animals. We enjoyed watching the crocodile feeding show very much. After spending about an hour at the zoo, we felt tired. So, we went to the small canteen located at the zoo for refreshment. After that, we bought some postcards in a souvenir shop beside the canteen.
After visiting the Zoo Negara, we proceeded to our next destination - the Kuala Lumpur Butterfly Park. There are more than 5000 colourful live butterflies in the park, which is also the largest butterfly garden in the world. We saw many of the attractive butterflies fluttering from flower to flower all over the place. We also had an opportunity to watch the magnificent Rajah Brooke's Birdwing, the national butterfly of Malaysia. There is a museum in the park, with a large collection of butterflies and insects from all over the world. Apart from butterfly specimens, we also saw specimens of beetles, scorpions and spiders in the museum.
On the third day, we went to the Batu Caves, which is a limestone hill with a series of caves and cave temples. The temples are sacred places for Hindus in Malaysia. A flight of 272 steps of staircase leads to the temples. My brother and I tried to walk up the whole flight of staircase but we found it too tiring. We only managed to walk halfway up. We saw quite a lot of wild monkeys on the staircase and the handrails. At noon, we decided to go to Genting Highlands. We went there by bus. The weather was very cool at the popular hill resort. The air was also very refreshing. While my parents were busy trying their luck on the casino floor, my brother and I were having a great time in the amusement park.
On the last day, we packed our luggage in the morning. Then, we checked out of the hotel. My father hired a taxi driver to take us around the city. We went on a shopping spree. We also visited a chocolate factory - Beryl's Chocolate Wonderland and bought some chocolate at a discounted price. In the evening, the taxi driver took us to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, where we caught a night flight home.
Although it was only a four-day trip, we had had an enjoyable time. I had also gained a lot of knowledge from the trip, which was an eye-opener for me. It was indeed the best holiday trip that I made.
